The Bulova "Academy Award" line ran from 1949 to 1953 and each year's release was always highly anticipated. The 1950 models were notable for their linear motif, with entire cases cast in vertical or horizontal lines. This 1950 Q variant has a 10k gold filled case that is in very good condition with only light age wear. The concealed lugs lend the case a streamlined aspect. The scalloped side bezel is a subtle but elegant touch. The hourglass dial is in excellent condition with little to no notable patina. The Bulova signature is clearly legible and the raised indices are a lovely reflective gold hue. The mineral glass crystal is original and has only a few minor imperfections. The photos don't do this watch justice, it has to be seen to be appreciated!
The crown has plenty of grip and the watch winds and sets easily. The matching gold filled caseback is in also very good condition and it snaps tightly to the case as it should. The 21 jewel 7AA movement has clearly been looked after over the decades and it keeps time very accurately. The Academy Award comes on new white-stitched oilskin leather bands with a matching gold buckle. Always in demand, this 1950 Academy Award would make a fine gift for any Bulova collector or watch aficionado.
